Though moving away to a country might seem a gigantic task, it all comes to organization and small details.

Therefore, you should begin to program your removal with 60 days of anticipation. You will be surprised with how easy the process will go.

In order to help you, Urbanos has organized the following checklist:

CHECKLIST
8 to 12 weeks before the removal

1. Organize an inventory. Decide what you are going to move;
2. Check what your company is going to offer in your place of destination, if applicable. Check your allowance;
3. Search a new home at your place of destination;
4. Prepare the values for the insurance of your assets. Urbanos has the proper forms for that effect;
5. Request the budget for your international removal. Contact-us! Urbanos places at your disposal experienced technicians to help you find the best solution for your case;
6. Decide what to do with the assets you are not going to take. You can donate them to charity or store them. We possess a Self Storage service. Contact us!
7. Acquire packing materials. We have packing kits at your disposal. Contact us!
8. Be sure to change certain services such as newspaper subscriptions, electricity, gas, Cable TV, telephone, etc;
9. Use the Transfer service provided by CTT to redirect correspondence. Contact them at www.ctt.pt , or transfer@ctt.pt.

2 to 3 weeks before the removal

1. Try to empty all frozen food from your freezer or refrigerator. Defrost the refrigerator or freezer and store the food elsewhere;
2. Remove the fuel from lawn mowers, motorcycles and other equipments;
3. Send tapestry, curtains, eiderdowns, etc. to the laundry;
4. Confirm the lease contract of your new home;
5. In case you haven’t found a new home yet, give the contacts of your hotel to Urbanos and then set the date to receive your assets at the place of destination;
6. Set the date when Urbanos is to pack your assets.

On the removal day
Remember to have in hand what you need during the removal day:
- Passport;
- Plain ticket;
- Hotel voucher;
- Inventory;
- Inventory for the insurance;
- Documents of the new house;
- Access codes to enter the building;
- Garage door remote control;
- At least two sets of keys for the new house;
- Urbanos’ contact information or of its FIDI representative at the place of destination.

Before you vacate the old house, be sure you did not forget to:
- Close all windows;
- Empty all cabinets;
- Empty the storage rooms;
- Turn off all lights;
- Turn off the water and gas meter;
- Lock the door;
- And if you are leaving furniture or other equipment for the new owner, check if everything is as agreed.

If you are not taking the refrigerator or freezer, leave it open to avoid molds or smells.
